Jools Bentley

Jools BentleyAll Jools wanted to do when she was little was to draw and show off on stage. Now that she’s (mostly) a grown-up, she’s found a way to combine drawing and acting without any of the stage fright that comes from standing in front of an audience: through her exquisitely crafted and beautifully illustrated picture books.

During her time on the MA in Children’s Illustration at Cambridge School of Art, Jools created Monsieur Kibble and the Big Surprise. Inspired by her two cats, one-eyed Milo and lazy Eddie, the book went on to win the Macmillan Prize in 2013.

Jools’ debut picture book The Hippopandamouse was published by Macmillan in July 2016.

Jools creates her colour artwork with pencil, watercolour and collage, and is also available for black and white line work. She lives in Broadstairs, and is mostly fuelled by cake…
