Maisie Paradise Shearring

Maisie Paradise Shearring was born in Hull. She loves drawing, writing stories and making picture books and comics. Alongside illustration, Maisie lectures and is also a tutor at Orange Beak Studio.

Maisie studied illustration at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating in 2013. In 2015, she graduated from Cambridge School of Art, where she gained a distinction and also received the Ronald Searle Prize for Creativity. In April of the same year, Maisie won the International Award for Illustration at Bologna Children’s Book Fair.

Maisie’s first book, an adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s story The Happy Prince, was published in Spain in 2016 by Grupo SM. It has received numerous co-editions including being published in the UK in 2017 by Thames & Hudson. This book was nominated for the 2017 Bratislava Biennial of Illustration.

In October 2018, Thames & Hudson will also be co-editioning Maisie’s second picturebook, Hello Monster! written by Clémentine Beauvais and first published in 2016 by Éditions Sarbaçane in France.

Maisie’s debut picture book as author-illustrator, Anna and Otis, will be published by Two Hoots in August 2018.
