Morag Hood

Morag grew up in Edinburgh writing stories, splashing paint around and dreaming of having a pet duck. Following a degree in Costume Design from Wimbledon College of Art, she spent a lot of time in theatres working backstage before studying for an MA in Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. Morag’s work is driven by story-telling, and she enjoys writing as much as illustrating.

Her picture book Colin and Lee, Carrot and Pea was awarded Joint 3rd in the Macmillan Prize 2014 and When Grandad Was a Penguin was Highly Commended. Colin and Lee, Carrot and Pea was published in June 2016, and When Grandad Was a Penguin was published in January 2017. Her next picture book as author/illustrator, I Am Bat, was released in September 2017 which will be followed by The Steves in 2018. All are published in the UK by Two Hoots.

2018 will also see the publication of Sophie Johnson Unicorn Expert, Morag’s debut picture book as writer only,  which will be illustrated by Ella Okstad, and published by Simon and Schuster Children’s UK.

She still doesn’t have a pet duck.
