Anuska grew up in Spain where she studied Fine Arts at the University of Salamanca. She has enjoyed drawing and writing stories for as long as she can remember and her work is driven by a love of storytelling. In 2016, she graduated with distinction from the MA in Children’s Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. She likes exploring texture and using mixed media, handmade stamps and stencilled shapes, and as well as her colour work, she loves creating black and white images.
Anuska has worked as a full-time illustrator with publishers in Spain, Mexico and Brazil, and her illustrations have been selected for exhibition at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, shortlisted for the AOI awards and Highly Commended in the Macmillan Prize.
She has recently illustrated the fiction book The Boy, the Bird and the Coffin Maker (Scholastic 2017), written by Matilda Woods, and the cover for a new edition of Penelope Lively’s classic story The Ghost of Thomas Kempe (Egmont 2018). Her first picture book as both author and illustrator, That Fruit is Mine! was published by Walker Books in April 2018.
Anuska has also illustrated A Bear is a Bear written by Karl Newson (Nosy Crow) which was published in March 2018, and Lucy Maud Montgomery, part of the Little People, Big Dreams series written by Isabel Sanchez Vegara (Frances Lincoln), due to be published in October 2018.
