Jess Racklyeft is a children’s book illustrator (and more recently author) based in Melbourne, Australia. After several years working in publishing sales she jumped ship to freelance illustrating after the arrival of her children.
Since then she’s illustrated ten books, been awarded a SCBWI Golden Kite Award and a CBCA Notable in 2017 and 2018, and spends her free moments illustrating for publishers, creating greeting cards and pin designs, and generally painting away her days rather happily. In between book projects she loves painting flocks of birds, hitting storytime at the local bookshop with her kids, and dreaming about travelling back to the Bologna Book Fair – this time as an illustrator rather than bookseller.
Jess works primarily with watercolour, but loves experimenting with screen printing, digital illustration and anything ink related. Her first authored and illustrated book Dreaming of A to Z is out in late 2018, with There’s Only One Mum Like You, to follow in 2019.
Jess has previously illustrated Merry Everything by Tania McCartney, in 2016 and If Baby Could Talk by Michael Wagner in 2017, both for Windy Tree Books. Following that came The Year of The Dog by Charles Hope for Simon & Schuster AU and Smile Cry by Tania McCartney and Love Was Hiding by Jennifer Loakes for Windy Tree Books, all in 2018.
Her first authored and illustrated book There’s Only One Mum Like You, came out in March 2019 with Affirm Press.
