Gabriela Houston
Agent: John BakerGabriela was born and raised in Poland, brought up on a diet of mythologies and fairy tales.
She spent her summers in Mazury (a flatland of forests and lakes), exploring the woods, foraging with her family and animal-tracking with her grandfather. At night, she’d sneak out swimming which fuelled her imagination-nurturing awe for the natural world, a quality which seeps into her writing.
At nineteen, Gabriela moved to London to study English Literature and later obtained a Masters degree in literatures of modernity. Since then, Gabriela has worked for a trade publisher as an assistant editor and as a freelance writer for a tech and business website. Gabriela’s short stories have been selected for the Editor’s Choice Review by Bewildering Stories and have been featured on the Ladies of Horror Fiction podcast.
Gabriela’s debut novel, The Second Bell, which was inspired by the Slavic folklore and landscapes of her childhood, was sold to Angry Robot, and published in March 2021. Gabriela’s debut book for younger readers, The Wind Child was sold to UCLan publishing and published in February 2022 and its sequel The Storm Child was published in May 2023. Gabriela’s second adult title with Angry Robot, The Bone Roots was published in October 2023.
She lives in London with her husband and two children.
