Superstar artist and picturebook creator, Jon Burgerman’s new book Everybody Worries is being released as an e-book completely free by his publisher OUP, who aims for the book to reassure children who are feeling anxious about Coronavirus

See below for BookBrunch’s story about it!

According to OUP: ‘At a time of collective and international worry, author, artist and professional doodler Jon Burgerman wanted to take positive action. Everybody Worries is Jon’s brand new, original e-picture book to support parents and carers whose children are feeling worried about Coronavirus and the changes it’s brought to their lives.’

The eBook is released today on the Oxford University Press home learning hub Oxford Owl for Home and across all usual eBook platforms. It will be available to view or download here: www.oxfordowl.co.uk/everybody-worries Everybody Worries will be launched by Burgerman at 3pm with an Instagram Live reading to his 115K followers (@JonBurgerman) followed by a Q&A.

Burgerman said: “I decided to write a book about worry and stress and how normal it is and how we can try and mitigate it. I think we might not acknowledge that small children worry as much as they do. Without a means of expressing their anxieties the stress can manifest and have adverse effects. It’s important to talk openly about what is going on and that the feelings we’re experiencing are being felt by a lot of people, and that by sharing (and caring!) for each other we can try and make it a little better.”

According to OUP: ‘In Jon’s instantly recognisable and inimitable style Everybody Worries offers comfort and reassurance to families with young children. The gentle rhyming text lets children know their worries are valid as well as providing ways to help them feel less concerned.

Cathy Creswell, Professor of Developmental Clinical Psychology, University of Oxford said: “Everybody Worries is a fantastic book! It is full of engaging, colourful, fun pictures but also wise words to help young children recognise that worried feelings are normal, and to share helpful, practical tips for getting worries under control. I am confident that this book will be helpful for children right now but also in their future, post covid19 lives.”

Everybody Worries is Burgerman’s fifth book with OUP. Previous books include Everybody Has a Body, a celebration of diversity and body positivity released in February. His books are commissioned and edited by Peter Marley (senior commissioning editor, OUP) and designed by Holly Fulbrook (head of design, OUP).

Lou John (head of reading at home, OUP) said: “I’m delighted to be publishing Jon’s book, which is so pertinent to what many children are experiencing and feeling during this pandemic. It’s warm, engaging and reassuring and is a very welcome addition to our list, which aims to support parents and children with their social and emotional development and learning.”
