Originally from Spain, Mariajo graduated from the Cambridge MA in Children's Books Illustration in 2021 and hasn’t looked back since - she has published three best-selling picture books which have sold across 28 languages. And in 2023 Mariajo’s very first picture book, Flooded, won the Klaus Flugge.
Mariajo was also the overall winner of the World Illustration awards in 2020. She was selected by The Unpublished Picture Book Showcase 3 years in a row, and she won the UKLA Book Awards and The English Association 4-11 Picture Book Awards in 2023. In addition, Mariajo was nominated for the 2021 Nami Concours showcase, longlisted at the 2021 and 2023 Bologna Children's Book Fair, and was longlisted for the Yoto Carnegies in 2023 with her picture book, Flooded and then was shortlisted for Lost in 2024.
When she is not dreaming up characters and scribbling their stories, Mariajo loves swimming, cooking and travelling - whenever she gets the chance! Mariajo lives in the countryside just outside of London with her partner, their little girl and Freckles (an extremely bouncy Border Collie!).
