We're so excited to announce that Archie Greene and the Magician's Secret has made it onto the Shortlist for Children's Book of the Year for the Specsavers National Book Awards! Today's announcement places Archie and his creator, author D.D. Everest, in the running for the prize alongside Animalium (Jenny Broom & Katie Scott), Awful Auntie (David Walliams), Goth Girl (Chris Riddell) and the Minecraft Construction Handbook (Matthew Needler & Phil Southam). The overall winner will be announced during the awards ceremony on Wednesday 26th November, followed by a reception at No.11 Downing Street! Archie Greene is the debut children's book from author D.D. Everest and tells the tale of a young boy who discovers an old book hidden deep within an ancient wooden box, written in a language he doesn’t recognise. With the book comes a Summoning – Archie must travel to Oxford to return the book to the Secret Library. Soon Archie will meet family that he never knew he had, and discover the world of the Book People – a community devoted to finding and preserving magical books. But the magical book under Archie’s protection is dangerous, and dark spirits hunt it out. With the help of his cousins Archie must do everything he can to uncover the book’s hidden powers and save the Book People from evil! We'll be keeping our fingers crossed (and maybe casting a good luck spell or two) for Archie in the next few weeks!
