Little Red by Bethan Woollvin shortlisted for The Klaus Flugge Prize

A huge congratulations to Bethan Woollvin who has been shortlisted for The Klaus Flugge Prize for her exceptional debut picture book Little Red. Published by Two Hoots in the UK and Peachtree in the US, Little Red is a wonderfully contemporary twist on the Little Red Riding Hood fairytale, and is told through a witty text and strikingly bold illustrations. It was named one of the New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Books of 2016. The shortlist was announced yesterday evening during a special event at Foyles bookshop on Charing Cross Road, celebrating the art of the picture book. The Klaus Flugge Prize chair of judges Julia Eccleshare was joined by award-winning illustrators Michael Foreman, Emily Gravett and Mini Grey as well as Professor Martin Salisbury Course Leader, MA Children’s Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. The panel discussed what makes great picture book illustration, and how illustrators today use pictures to move, entertain and influence their audience. Established in 2016, The Klaus Flugge Prize is awarded to the most promising and exciting newcomer to children’s book illustration, and we are delighted that Bethan and Little Red have been included in this year's distinguished shortlist of talented illustrators. We wish everyone the best of luck!
