Afua Bediako is a Ghanaian British illustrator and author from North London. It has always been her passion to pursue a career as an author. ‘Noughts and Crosses’ by Malorie Blackman was the book which sparked her interest in writing as a teenager. Though her favourite author is Octavia Butler, particularly her titles ‘Kindred’ and ‘Parable of the Sower’. Reading popular book series written by black female authors gave her hope one day she could write something worth publishing too.

In 2023, Afua won the FAB Prize with her story ‘Super Mortals’. She has also been long listed for The Times and Chicken House Writing Awards. As well as shortlisted for the Bloomsbury ‘Your Next Obsession YA Fiction Competition’. Afua has also taken part in the Harper Collins Author Academy to better develop her writing skills and took part in a mentorship scheme by the Creative Mentorship Network, in partnership with Soho House, to help better develop her creative practice.
