Bethany Christou graduated from Cambridge School of Art with a First Class BA (Hons) degree in Illustration. In her final year she wrote and illustrated a picture book, Slow Samson, which was ‘highly commended’ for the Macmillan Prize 2016.

She has been drawing and writing stories for as long as she can remember. In her work, Bethany aims to create characters full of personality, and stories with heart and humour. She enjoys working with a combination of gouache paint, coloured pencils and digital painting.

Bethany lives in a tiny village in rural Hertfordshire, where she’s constantly inspired by the wildlife and scenery surrounding her.

Her debut picture book, Slow Samson was published in the UK by Templar in 2019. Her second book with Templar, Nervous Nigel, published in June 2020. Bethany has also illustrated The Blue Beyond, written by Jeanne Willis and published with Stripes in July 2020 as part of their ‘colour fiction’ range.

Her most recent picture book, I'm More Than Just A Sheep published with Templar in April 2022.
